| A Partnership of Ministry to Karen Refugees in North Carolina | |
(March 2009)
New Bern, North Carolina, has been designated as a receiving city for Burmese immigrants coming from Thailand. As a result, Temple Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC, has launched an outreach to them and now has over 100 people attending a special Sunday school class that is taught in the Karen language. They've made a church plant among the Karen-speaking refugees, but they also requested our TTB Karen language programs to use in their outreach. Joe Fort, our ministry coordinator at TWR, was able in late December to drive to Rocky Mount and personally hand deliver the CDs. Lay Dwe, who is the pastor of the new church plant among the Karen people, was surprised and overwhelmed at the possibility of having this valuable resource in teaching the Bible to his new congregation. Please pray for Lay, these displaced people from Thailand, and for those in North Carolina who are ministering to them. May the teaching of God’s Word in their own language be a comfort to them and bring many to a knowledge of Christ!
